Ampicillin/Cloxacillin or most commonly know as AMPICLOX is a combination of two classical antibacterials. It’s most common used in treating bacterial skin infections. Still it can be used on Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and N. meningitidis. Ampiclox in Kenya is more active than benzylpenicillin against some Gram-negative bacilli, including Haemophilus influenzae. Food interferes with the absorption of ampiclox so doses should preferably be taken at least 30 minutes before meals.
The most common adverse effects of Ampiclox are hypersensitivity reactions, especially skin rashes; anaphylaxis occasionally occurs and has sometimes been fatal.
