ZYTIGA (abiraterone acetate) is a medication primarily used in the treatment of prostate cancer. It is indicated for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), particularly those who have received prior chemotherapy. ZYTIGA works by inhibiting the production of androgens (male hormones) such as testosterone, which can fuel the growth of prostate cancer cells.

In addition to its use in mCRPC, ZYTIGA is also approved for use in combination with prednisone for patients with high-risk metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) who are receiving androgen deprivation therapy.

The drug is taken orally and is typically prescribed in a dosage of 1,000 mg once daily, along with a low dose of prednisone to manage potential side effects. Common side effects include fatigue, hypertension, and liver function abnormalities. Regular monitoring is essential during treatment.
