Brilinta (ticagrelor) is an antiplatelet medication primarily used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or those who have a history of myocardial infarction. It works by inhibiting platelet aggregation, thereby preventing blood clots from forming.

Brilinta is often prescribed in combination with aspirin to enhance its effectiveness in preventing thrombotic events. It is typically administered in a 90 mg tablet form, with a common regimen involving a loading dose followed by a maintenance dose.

In addition to its primary use in ACS, Brilinta may also be indicated for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to maintain patency of stents. Patients taking Brilinta should be monitored for bleeding risks, as antiplatelet therapy can increase the likelihood of hemorrhagic complications.
